Xavi claims fourth title in Qatar after Emir Cup win

The inauguration of the new Al-Rayyan Stadium in Qatar took place on Friday as  Xavi and Al-Sadd won the Emir Cup, with this trophy the fourth that the former midfielder has won in Qatar.

With the final taking centre stage as part of the celebrations for Qatar’s National Day, even the Emir himself was present in the stands for what was a close affair.

Being able to start a player as good as Santi Cazorla is something most coaches long for and Xavi was able to do just that as the former Arsenal playmaker helped steer Al-Sadd to a 2-1 victory over Al-Arabi.

Cazorla wasn’t the only Spaniard involved, with Marc Muniesa now plying his trade with Al-Arabi, yet the match will be remembered more for Xavi’s own achievements.

In lifting the Emir Cup, the former Barcelona captain has clinched his fourth title as coach of Al-Sadd, having previously won the 2019 Super Cup, 2020 Qatar Cup and the 2019/20 Stars Cup.

The venue used for the final is slated to be used as one of the stadiums for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and is the fourth to be officially opened after the International Khalifa, Al-Janoub and Education City venues.
