2019 World Para Powerlifting Championship: Total pledges strong support, promise development of athletes

Ahead of the landmark 2019 World Para Powerlifting Championship holding in Nigeria, Total E&P Nigeria Ltd have promised to provide new equipment and develop athletes.The special Championship which is slated for January 24th to 31st will have 10 countries competing for honours at the event in Lagos.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, the External Relations Manager, Total E&P Nigeria Ltd, Mr Charles Ebereonwu revealed: “Total Nigeria are working towards providing new equipment and also helping with the development of Para Powerlifters which will soon be made known to the public.”

Interestingly, the Para Powerlifting Federation of Nigeria have assembled 20 paralympians, consisting of 10 males and 10 females to battle for 20 Gold medals, 20 Silver medals and 20 bronze medals. The prize money pegged for the categories are $2500 for gold, $1500 for Silver and $1000 for bronze.

The President of the Federation, Queen Uboh lauded the efforts of the sponsors and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the new improvement in the sport.

“The para powerlifting federation are grateful for the efforts of the sponsors like Peak, Total and others for the recent development like provision of the wheelchair, accessible Van that have been put in place to ensure we have a peaceful and happy championship in Lagos,” she said.

The Head Coach of the Nigeria Para Powerlifters, Are Feyisetan also made it clear to Journalist present that a total number of 20 categories will be competed for at the event, 10 for the male and 10 for the Female side.

The 10 sponsors for the forthcoming championship includes Heritage Bank, Total Plc, Peak, Sterling Insurance, Incentive Media, AirFrance KLM, GinKlat Capsule, Lagace, and Ministry of youth and sports.
