With 59 days to the commencement of the FIFA World Cup, former Chelsea player John Mikel Obi has assured that he is in on top of his job as captain of both the Super Eagles and Chinese club, Tianjin Teda.

He has declared that he will be in the best frame of mind to lead Nigeria to Russia, SportingLife.ng can report.

As captain of the national team, Obi said he is aware of the huge responsibilities on his shoulders and is prepared for the task.

”This year I have been well prepared mentally and physically to deal with the Super League and the World Cup, these two events for the two teams, I will certainly be balanced,”” he said.

Mikel’s renewed commitment will be a good one for head coach, Gernot Rohr who wants the experience of his captain to rub off positively on the team, especially among the young players.

His greatest wish however, is to see the Eagles go beyond its second round outing recorded at the last edition four years ago in Brazil.

”I am looking forward to Tianjin Teda to achieve good results in the Super League, but also hope that Nigerian team can go farther and better in the World Cup.

On Sunday, Obi took to Twitter to celebrate his first goal of the season for Tianjin in their 2-1 win against Guangzhou R&F in the Chinese Super League which moved them to the eighth position on the table.

“Great to score. Great to win! Keep pushing lads! ????”

The player who missed Nigeria’s two friendly matches last month due to work permit issues, is expected back for the Congo DR friendly next month in Nigeria.
