AFCON: Augustine Eguavoen claims CAF’s Best Manager Award
Super Eagles interim boss Augustine Eguavoen has claimed the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Group Stage Best Manager Award of the ongoing AFCON 2021 in Cameroon.
The 56-year-old Eguavoen led Nigeria to three straight wins in Group D, which also had Egypt, Sudan and Guinea Bissau on parade.

The former Nigerian international, who lifted the 1994 AFCON trophy in Tunisia, thus equalled the previous record he also set as coach at 2006 AFCON in Egypt.
Interestingly, Eguavoen’s achievement in Cameroon is the even more remarkable as he only took charge of the Eagles barely days to the commencement of AFCON 2021.

Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar was picked as Player of the first round after netting five goals for the host nation, while Egypt’s Mohamed Elshenawy was goalkeeper of the group stage.
Meanwhile, Guinea’s IIaix Moriba was selected Young Player of the first round.
