AFCON: Udi drumming support for Peseiro to lead Nigeria to glory

Ex-Super Eagles midfielder Duke Udi is drumming support for Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro to lead Nigeria to continental glory in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

Peseiro has been criticised following the Super Eagles’ poor showing in recent outings.

The three-time African champions laboured to draw against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures.

A performance that led to renewed calls for Peseiro to be shown the exit doord, but Udi is backing the Portuguese to remain in charge of the team.

“It’s too early to sack a coach because he drew two matches. He has not lost,” the former Shooting Stars player told BBC Sports Africa.

“We are still on course for both competitions (the World Cup and Nations Cup). In Ivory Coast, anything can happen.”

Cote d’Ivoire will host the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are in Group A alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
