Arsenal postpone Ljungberg’s press conference for one surprising reason

Arsenal delay Ljungberg’s press conference as chiefs desperately work on Mikel Arteta deal

Arsenal have decided to postpone Freddie Ljungberg’s press conference in order to thrash out Mikel Arteta’s deal.

The Gunners have allegedly agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal for the Manchester City assistant to take over at the Emirates.

Interim boss Ljungberg was set to speak to the press on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s crunch clash against Everton.

But the club have rescheduled the press conference for Friday – allowing them time to finalise a deal for Arteta.

The former Gunners midfielder is expected to be named as the club’s new manager within the next 48 hours.

Arsenal still need to reach an agreement over how much compensation will be paid to Manchester City before the move can be confirmed.

Arteta is expected to be in the dugout when the north London club travel to Goodison Park on Sunday.

Ljungberg will step down as the club’s caretaker manager after winning just one of his matches in charge.

Following last weekend’s defeat to Manchester City, Ljungberg urged the club’s hierarchy to make a decision sooner rather than later.

If he takes over Arsenal, Arteta is expected to raid his former club for assistant manager Rodolfo Borrell.

And he has already reportedly set his sights on signing Sevilla star Antonio Zarzana.
