AWCON Qualifiers:Kanu brace hand Falcons win over Black Queens

 

Super Falcons on Wednesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena beat visiting Black Queens of Ghana 2-0 in their two legged 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers. A brace from strike Uchenna Kanu did the job for the Nigerian girls.

Known as rivals from the past, the two West African giants are facing off in the playoffs to next year’s women’s championship that will be organised by CAF.

Although both national teams would have wished for a different opponents, they have accepted the challenge and looking to secure the needed win over the two legs to guarantee a place in the 2022 AWCON.

Though the Black Queens put up a good fight in the encounter it did not stop the Asisat Oshoala captained side from running away with the needed three points.

The Falcons will however need to put all the arsenals in their armoury to work in the return leg as Black Stars appear determined to double in the home tie billed for Sunday.

Ghana’s Black Stars trail on aggregate and must beat the opponent by a bigger margin on Sunday to merit a place at the 2022 AWCON.
