CAF WCL: Rivers Angels hammer Vihiga Queens, exit competition

 

Rivers Angels got consolation victory against Vihiga Queens of Kenya on Friday in the ongoing CAF Women Champions League but it only counted for pride. The Nigerian representatives had earlier lost two matches and apparently played the last game with announce pounding their opponents 4-0 just for the records as the booked their exit from the competition.

Mamelodi Sundowns qualified as top of Group B to the semifinals along with ASFAR in second place after a 0-0 draw, while Rivers Angels won their first 3 points in the group stage in a 4-0 win over Vihiga Queens, and they both said farewell to the tournament.

After a goalless first half, Kechukwu Obianujuwan Vivian scored the first two goals from two penalties for Rivers Angels, then Koku Iyabo Oluwadamilola added the third goal before Monday Gift scored the fourth and last goal to close the goal feast.

River Angels coach Edwin Okon took consolation in the fact the team at least won a match and came to venue as Nigerian champions. After learning the necessary lessons the next thing to do according to him is to go back and prepare for next time

“It was not useful for us to keep thinking about the last two losses, so we moved on and prepared well for the game”.

“We are champions in where we come from. We’ll prepare for the next tournament and learn from our mistakes” he said

Vihiga Queens Coach Okere Charles joined his Nigerian counterpart in the need to go back to the drawing board noting in his case that the girls failed to play according to plan.

“We did not play as we planned. The first half was good but in the second half we started going down. We will learn from our mistakes and come back stronger”.
