CAF WCL: Rivers Angels lose to Sundowns remain pointless
The desire of Rivers Angels to pick a point in the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League hit the rocks Tuesday after they were beaten by a lone goal by Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa at the at El Salam Stadium, Cairo.
The South African ladies now top Group B with six points. three points more than Kenya’s Vihiga Queens and Morocco’s ASFAR. Nigeria’s Rivers Angels trail the group pointless.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ Captain, Zanele Portia Nhlapho , scored what proved to be the game’s lone goal at the 17th minute, as Massandawna recorded their second identical 1-0 of the tournament.
Rivers Angels tried to get back in the match but could not turn the chances into goals.
Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon was full of lamentations songs after the match admitting that the loss broke his heart.
“It was a good game, but not from our side. We created many chances but did not score. But the goal we conceded is what makes me unhappy. “This defeat breaks my heart as a coach “he said

Sundowns coach Jerry Tshabalala though happy to have won turned Oliver Twist adding that the lone goal was not enough.
“It was a very tough game for us, we tried to play our football, but it was very difficult. I’m not completely happy with the performance, as we couldn’t score more”.
“I’ve seen ASFAR more than once, it will be an open game as they like to play in a way similar to us. They will be very dangerous. Anything can happen in football, so we have to be cautious”.

“We are not the team that plays defensively, we will not set back, we will attack. We have to keep possession as much as we can” he added ahead of their next encounter. Rivers Angels will take on Vigah Queens of Kenya on Friday just as Mamelodi battle ASFAR of Morocco who fought tooth and nail but could not avoid losing 2-0 to Vigah Queens on Tuesday just before Rivers Angels clash with Mamelodi.
Recall that Rivers Angels were handed a 3-0 baptism of fire in their first match by ASFAR of Morocco.
