Covid infection: Oshoala to miss Elche, Real Madrid friendlies

 

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala will be missing in action when Barcelona take on Elche and Real Madrid in pre-season friendlies billed for August 4 and 8 respectively.

This followed revealation that the Champions league winner has contracted Covid-19 and we proceed in isolation in line with the rules of the virus that has held the world in the jurgular for two years running.

Oshoala was left out in Barcelona women’s training camp in Algorfa, where the squad will stay for 10 days preparing for the new season.

The European champions, while announcing the squad for the friendly game against Elche in Alicante, were silent on the whereabouts of their star striker despite not being listed among the 23-man travelling party

The club announced that Ingrid Engen, Andrea Pereira and Cata Coll, who were not included in the travelling party due to various injuries, will join the team later but kept mum on the whereabouts of the Nigerian international.

However, a Catalan daily sports newspaper, based in Barcelona, L’Esportiu, revealed that the four-time African Women’s Footballer of The Year missed the party due to COVID-19. “Asisat Oshoala is infected COVID-19 Barça footballer,” the website stated.

Judging from the rate of recovery among certain age brackets, Oshoala should be able to bounce back to action in time for the start of the new season  on August 13.

Oshoala who joined Barcelona ladies in 2019 has made over 32 appearances for the side with 33 goals to his credit.
