Emery charges Iwobi, teammates to start games better

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery has charged Alex Iwobi and the rest of the team to show more urgency if they are to sustain the tempo both in the Premier League and Europa League in the current campaign.

Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to 11 matches after Thursday’s 1-0 victory against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League, but Emery has admitted that his players need to overcome their slow start to matches as they get set to face Crystal Palace on Sunday at Selhurst Park.

“Each match is a very big opportunity to improve things and one thing is this,” he replied when asked about starting matches too slowly.

“We spoke in the dressing room before the start of the match today about our objectives. And one objective is this. But the most important thing is that when we were in the dressing room at half-time, we spoke.

“But we need to continue finding the solution for us to be better in the first halves.”

Iwobi came on in the 86th minute as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after Danny Welbeck had grabbed the winner in the 77th minute following a defensive blunder.

Both sides started the game slowly and the first half was largely bereft of quality with Arsenal gradually improving after the interval.
