Eni Aluko named Angel City Sporting Director
Nigeria born former England international Eni Aluko has been appointed Sporting Director of US based National Women’s Soccer League side Angel City.
This is coming few weeks after she left same post with Aston Villa women. Aluko will not be a new comer to her new job having played for some time in the United States in the course of her soccer career. She thus becomes the first ever sporting director of Angel City in the NWSL
The 34-year-old stepped down from her position at Aston Villa last week, having originally taken the role shortly after announcing her retirement from playing in January 2020.
Aluko will now continue her career overseas returning to the country where she had spells as a player, joining Angel City, an NWSL expansion team, who will begin playing competitively in Los Angeles from 2022
Discussing her appointment, Aluko said: “This is an incredible opportunity to help write Angel City’s first chapter and to build a team that is people-focused and admired by players and fans all over the world.
“I have no doubt the club will be a trailblazer, not just in the NWSL and women’s soccer, but for sports clubs globally. As a former player, the club’s determination to make an impact both on the field and in the community is something that I fully support, and I can’t wait to get started. Aluko played 102 times for England during her playing career

Angel City founder and President Julie Uhrman added: “Appointing Eniola Aluko, a world-renowned international soccer player with extensive experience in technical positions, is a landmark moment for us.
US tennis great and 23 Grand Slam winner Serena Williams, who Aluko says she admires, is one of the investors of Angel City.
Some other known investors of the club include Natalie Portman, as well as ex-United States international including Abby Wambach. Eni is elder sister to Super Eagles ace Sone Aluko.
