Gerrard gets green light to ferry in Joe Aribo

Super Eagles star Joe Aribo may cross over to the premier league with Aston Villa topping the list of his possible destination. 

Aston Villa coach Steven Gerrard has been handed the approval by to delve into the transfer market, with Rangers star Joe Aribo top on his shopping list according to reports.

Aribo has impressed in Scotland, most notably under Gerrard, before the Liverpool legend left for Villa last month.

The former Charlton Athletic man is under contract with the Light Blues until the summer of 2023, but reportedly has no intention of renewing his current deal.

Numerous Premier League sides have been linked with the player, including Brentford, Southampton, Burnley, and Gerrard’s Villa.

The Mirror (via the Daily Record) claim the 41-year-old has been given the “green light” by the club’s board to make some signings in his first window at the Midlands outfit.

When questioned on incoming players, Gerrard said: “I don’t think I’ll be giving anything away in terms of potential targets or areas I want to improve in. I think you’ll have to just wait and see what we do.

“At the moment the transfer window is shut, so the focus is currently on what we have available as of now. We have players capable of playing in that six position. We’re not in an emergency situation.”

Aribo could be high on Gerrard’s shortlist after the injury to midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, who is ruled out up to four months with a knee injury.

Elsewhere, David Moyes has insisted that he is keen to be a “trophy winner” with West Ham ahead of their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham.

Moyes’ side have knocked out Manchester United and Manchester City to advance in the competition.
