I can wear any jersey number —Iwobi

Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi has said that he is not concerned about the position he plays in the national team so far the team is winning their games.

Iwobi has played in different positions since making his senior debut for the Super Eagles in 2015, replacing Ahmed Musa in the 57th minute of a 2–0 friendly defeat to DR Congo in Visé, Belgium.

But his position has been a subject of discussion, while some prefer him in the wing, some Nigerians think he is good as number 10.

While responding to a question during the pre-press match conference on Tuesday, Iwobi said he is ready to give his best in any position the coach ask him to play.

“As regards my position in the team, whether in the right, left or in the middle. I will always give my best wherever I am asked to play on the pitch,” Iwobi said to SportingLife.ng.

Iwobi also said he is not losing sleep to wear the Super Eagles number 10 jersey number when the team’s captain John Obi Mikel, who is wearing the jersey now, retire from international football. Mikel is expected to retire after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

“I have not been thinking about the number of jerseys I wear, I am more concerned about the team’s performance. I know how important the number 10 jersey is to the national team and to the country but if it is number 10 or number 18 I will always give my best. It they give the number 10 or not, I will always wear any jersey giving to me, number 45 or any numbers,” he said.
