I have not spoken with Osimhen about AFCON – Eguavoen

Super Eagles caretaker coach Austin Eguavoen has revealed he has spoken to Victor Osimhen about the upcoming AFCON as he was more concerned about the player’s health.

Osimhen has resumed training with his Italian club after recently undergoing surgery for facial fractures, but he remains a major doubt for next month’s AFCON in Cameroon.

Eguavoen said he spoke to Osimhen at the weekend, but it was not to do with the striker’s availability for the AFCON.

“I have spoken to him,” he told Nigeria Info FM in an extended interview.

“He said he was fine.

“I did not talk about the AFCON because right now what is most important is his health.”

Eguavoen also admitted that the Napoli striker is crucial to the national team.

“Osimhen brings a lot to the team,” he remarked.

The striker was the team’s leading scorer for the 2021 AFCON qualifiers with five goals.

He also scored four goals to get the Eagles to the final playoffs for the 2022 World Cup in March.
