Leicester to spend £80m for replacement of Iheanacho, others

In an attempt to beef-up its squad towards next season, Leicester City has signified bid to spend up to £80 million to recruit valuable players expected to replace the likes of Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho and others.

Leicester reportedly targeted several signings during the summer which they were eventually priced out from, including centre-backs Nathan Ake of Bournemouth and James Tarkowski of Burnley, but according to The Telegraph, they have banked in the money generated by the sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United.

These kind of fees are usually paid in several installments spread over a longer period of time, but United were so desperate to complete the deal that they have already paid up in one huge transaction.

The money already being at the disposal of the club now puts them in a different situation, and Ake and Tarkowski are expected to be targeted again in January despite Caglar Soyuncu fitting in well alongside Johnny Evans in the heart of defence. Manager Brendan Rodgers and the club’s recruitment department are already working on identifying targets in other areas as well.

The Foxes also plan to trim their current squad slightly, with the likes of midfielder Nampalys Mendy and Iheanacho among those who could possibly leave the King Power Stadium.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are optimistic of signing James Maddison from Leicester City as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to overhaul his squad over the next two transfer windows.

Despite spending close to £150million on Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James last summer, the Red Devils have endured a dismal start to the new season. After nine games, Solskjaer’s side find themselves 14th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone and with just one win since the opening weekend.
