Maikaba opined that his objective of exposing his newly acquired players to quality games and also ensuring that the old and new gel together have been achieved in Kano.
The Peace Boys were beaten on penalties by the Nigeria Professional Football League new entrants, Jigawa Golden Stars and Maikaba hinted that his players were the better side on the strength of what was played during the duration of the game.
He said they were unlucky not to have converted the chances that came their ways before the game spiralled into the penalty shootouts which they eventually lost.
“Pre-season tournaments are meant to prepare the team and it shouldn’t be what must be won at all costs,” Maikaba told SportingLife.
“We played the better game throughout the pre-season tournament in Kano but only lost on penalties to Jigawa Golden Stars. We should have wrapped up the game before the end of the 90 minutes but we were not coordinated in the attack.

“We created several chances and should have won had we taken our chances. We were able to expose our players to quality friendly matches and the new players are fast learning our philosophy. We can confidently say that if the season kicks off today we are ready for all teamsi the topflight.”
Maikaba confirmed that Plateau United will trade tackles with National League side Green Berets of Kaduna on Friday in another tune up games.
