Ighalo is hoping he can form a strike partnership with Anthony Martial if he is given the chance to start against former side Watford this weekend.

Deadline-day signing Ighalo has made substitute appearances against Chelsea and Club Brugge but is yet to start for Manchester United.

Ighalo is pushing for a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting line-up and he is ready to help the team wherever his manager sees fit.

The Nigerian, speaking after his side’s 1-1 draw with Club Brugge in the Europa League, said of playing alongside Martial: ‘That is the decision of the coach.

‘My job is just to work hard every day in training and, when called upon to help the team, I do so.

‘I have played in Premier League before, I know what is required.

‘I know you have to be very strong and physical, get to hold some balls up for your team to push forwards, so I am working towards that. I am getting better and better. We have good players there.

‘Unfortunately, [Marcus] Rashford is injured, he is a good striker, sometimes he played from the side, so we will have to cope with that. I am happy whenever I am called upon to do anything, I am ready to go.’

Ighalo is already open to the idea of signing for United on a permanent basis.

He added: ‘Of course [I would be willing to extend my stay], should I get the opportunity.’
