Onyekuru who resumed training with the Principality club after recovering from a thigh injury was not listed for the match which they won by a lone goal scored by Wissam Ben Yedder in the 22nd minute.

The 22-year-old has been out of action since the end of September and missed games against Montpellier and Stade Rennais.

He was expected to be available for the encounter having passed a late fitness test.

The winger will now have to work tirelessly to displace the duo of Yedder and Islam Slimani who have both impressed upfront since the club switched to a 3-5-2 formation.

The Nigerian has struggled to break into the team and has now been made to look for a possible loan switch in January to save his chances with the national team.

Meanwhile, Moses Simon who incidentally plays the same role with Onyekuru in the national team was in action for Nantes.

It was Monaco’s fourth win of the season from 14 matches which leaves them in the eighth position while Nantes are still second behind league leaders, PSG.  The match produced four yellow cards.
