Osimhen declares readiness for Eagles after grabbing fourth goal

Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen has declared his readiness to play for the Super Eagles after scoring a brace on Sunday night to power Sporting Charleroi to a 3-2 victory over Zulte-Waregem in a Belgium league match.

The former Golden Eaglets forward, who took the world by storm when he helped Nigeria win the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup with ten goals, has continued his recent fine form for Charleroi.

The 19-year-old endured two injury plagued seasons at Bundesliga outfit, Wolfsburg where he started just three matches before making a career saving loan move to Belgium and it seems to be paying off for the striker tipped to blossom into a full international.

Asked if he hopes to play for the Super Eagles, he replied: “I’m always ready to serve my fatherland whenever call upon. It’s the dream of every player to represent his country.”

Interestingly, Osimhen’s goals came in the last five minutes against Zulte-Waregem. Hamdi Harbaoui canceled out Cristian Benavente’s opener before the Tunisian gave the visitors a 2-1 lead in the 83rd minute but Osimhen made it his show as he equalized two minutes later and grabbed the winner at the death to earn his side a well deserved 3-2 home win.

I’m so happy for my goals,” he explained to SportingLife.ng via chat. “Its just the same feelings for me like getting my first professional goal in Europe and what more can I say than to thank God Almighty – hoping for more goals in course of d season. Big thanks to GOD ALMIGHTY, my team mates and the technical crew.”

The brace meant the Nigerian has now scored four goals in his last four league appearances for Sporting Charleroi as they moved to eighth with 14 points after 11 matches in the Belgian league.
