Rohr seeks revenge against South Africa

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has vowed to take his pound of flesh against South Africa on November 17 in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Both teams are eye the three points available on Match day five with the Eagles manager confident that victory will come the way of Nigeria who lost the first leg in June 2017 2-0 in Uyo.

It was Bafana Bafana’s first ever win over Nigeria and Rohr’s first defeat which still hurts the German and he would be hoping his wards are in the best frame of mind to finish the job.

“The defeat still hurts and we want to take revenge for it.

“They beat us with strong counter attacks in Uyo. We dominated the game and actually played quite well in first half, but didn’t score. And then they attacked us on the counter, one towards the end when we pressed for the equaliser.”

He continued: “It was in June 2017, which is now quite a long time ago. I remember we had many players absent at the time, with that match taking place in the break between the seasons. I’m happy that everyone will be available this time around and that our team can get revenge for that defeat,” the coach told Kick Off Magazine.”

For now the Eagles lead group E with nine points while South Africa are second with eight points, and a win for either side will seal qualification to the tournament next year in Cameroon with a game to spare. Third placed, Libya have four points while Seychelles are fourth with a point.

South Africa sees any match against Nigeria as war no matter the level of competition.
