Ronaldo: I never wanted to leave Barcelona

Ronaldo Nazario has lifted the lid on how he left Barcelona for Inter Milan.

The Real Valladolid owner insists he never wished to leave Barca at the time.

“I had signed a contract to renew at the end of the season and I went on a trip with Brazil and after five days they called me to tell me that I could not continue with the renewal,” Ronaldo revealed on DAZN.

“I had the desire to continue. This decision was not in my hands.”

On the other hand, he revealed that his greatest desire was to return to Spain at Real Madrid.

“My dream was to play in Madrid one day and I fought until the last moment to come.”

Ronaldo revealed that Roberto Carlos played a fundamental role for his signing: “I played with him in the Brazilian national team and he told me everything that Madrid represented and what was lived there.

“That stayed with me and I wanted to see it with my own eyes. I went to Madrid and the truth is that it was bigger than what Roberto Carlos said and what I could imagine.

“Madrid, wherever I go, is Real Madrid. There are the best players in the world. I loved knowing that it was huge and that I could help this club to be even bigger.

“There was a lot of expectation for the Galacticos. In the end we gave a lot of show, it was a winning generation that has changed the way of doing business in football.

“There was this great change in a new era of football.”
