Silva, Sterling others clash at Nations League Finals

Bernardo Silva is targeting international glory after claiming an unprecedented domestic treble with Manchester City and is keen for a reunion with some of his club team-mates here in Portugal.

Silva’s Portugal begin their Nations League Finals campaign against Switzerland on Wednesday night and after a stunning season under Pep Guardiola, he is preparing to play a vital role on home soil.

City claimed the League Cup, FA Cup, and Premier League – the first men’s side to do so in English football – this season and Silva could further write his name into history as a winner of the first Nations League title.

“Of course having a great season at club level has given me confidence coming into the national side, and it would be brilliant to finish this season with a title with Portugal, too,” Silva said.

“You always want to win titles. Fernando Santos has already led this team to glory and we have a really tough game in front of us against Switzerland now but we are here and we are in it to win it.”

Should Portugal win on Wednesday night, and England triumph over the Netherlands in their semi-final on Thursday, Silva would come up against a number of his treble-winning City team-mates in the final, and it is a thought he relishes.
