South Africa defeat Mali 2-0 to seal maiden Women’s World Cup ticket

South Africa’s Bayana Bayana on Tuesday evening picked the second FIFA Women’s World Cup after defeating Mali 2-0 at the Robert Mensah Stadium at the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cape Coast, Ghana.

Goals from Thembi Kgatlana and Lebohang Ramalepe in both halves were enough to send the South Africa ladies to the final to set another mouth watering clash against the Super Falcons of Nigeria which will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium. kgatlana now has five goals to lead the scorer’s chart.

Saturday’s final will be the second for both sides in this tournament after South Africa shocked Nigeria by a lone goal in their opening group game.

The World Cup ticket is the first for South Africa which comes 20 years after the Men’s Team, otherwise known as Bafana Bafana booked their ticket to their maiden FIFA World Cup in France in 1998.

“And 🇿🇦South Africa like Jamaica book a ticket to their first ever Women’s World Cup (#France2019) 20 years after their men’s national teams booked a ticket to their maiden World Cup (France 1998). Something about 🇫🇷France, huh?,” read a tweet on the CAf Twitter handle.

Interestingly France will be hosting the Women’s World Cup next year.

In the third place match Mali face Cameroon for the third World Cup ticket.
