Special One witnesses a special moment as a Roma fan proposes

Jose Mourinho found himself in the middle of one of the biggest events in one Roma fan’s life, but not in the way he might have expected.

The Portuguese manager was found lost for words after a starstruck fan chose the moment he met “The Special One” to propose to his partner while Mourinho awkwardly watched on.

The fan and his girlfriend had the opportunity to meet Mourinho at Roma’s pre-season camp in Albufeira, Portugal.

The 59-year-old posed for several photos with the couple, before trying to walk off, but was prevented from doing so by the fan, who attempted to position the Roma manager for his big moment.

For a manager who has seen – and done – almost everything in the professional game, Mourinho found himself completely out of his depth as he then watched on as the man proposed.

Having watched on with an almost painfully awkward smile on his face, Mourinho then joined the club’s staff in applauding the couple on an evening that all three of those involved will likely never forget.

After initially looking far from pleased, Mourinho quickly realised what was afoot and played his part in good spirit.

The video was later posted by Roma on their social media channels, with the caption ‘Meeting Jose Mourinho really gave this fan the courage to go for it all!’

Aside from witnessing awkward proposals in Portugal, Mourinho has been busy this summer, as his Roma side look to build a squad capable of challenging the established title contenders in Serie A.

Having already persuaded former Juventus forward Paulo Dybala to sign after a personal phone call amid heavy interest from Inter, Mourinho has added Zeki Celik, Nemanja Matic and Mile Svilar to his ranks.

And he is already trying to bring in another midfielder, in the form of Champions League-winning former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum from PSG.

The Portuguese manager is currently understood to be working on a deal that will include an obligation for the Europa Conference League winners to buy the Dutch international for a fee worth up to £13million.
