Super Falcons Get Tough Opponents in AWCON Draw

Draws for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) have been concluded on Sunday with the Nigeria’s senior national women’s team, the Super Falcons, drawn against three strong opposition countries in the group stage.

The defending champion will begin the quest to retain the biennial championship against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa who  finished fourth in the last edition held in Cameroon. The match comes up on November 18 in Cape Coast.

Several Confederation of African Football(CAF) including President Ahmad witnessed the draw as the female national team was drawn agaianst Zambia and Kenya for their second and third group matches respectively.

Recall that the Super Falcons defeated Cameroon 1-0 in the final at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo, Yaounde to emerge the defending champion.

Hosts of the 2018 edition- the Black Queens of Ghana- have been handed a tough assignment as they face Algeria, Mali and Cameroon in Group A.

The top three teams of the competition will qualify automatically for the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup in France. The final tournament is scheduled for the Ghanaian cities of Accra and Cape Coast from 17 November to 1 December 2018.
