Tottenham fans dream of Wembley after Carabao Cup semi-final draw

Tottenham Hotspur will face Championship side Brentford in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it has been confirmed.

Spurs, who last won the competition back in 2008, defeating Chelsea in the final at Wembley, progressed to the last-four with a hard-fought 3-1 win over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday evening.

After seeing Gareth Bale’s clever first-half header cancelled out by Jordan Thomspon’s equaliser shortly after half-time, Spurs scored twice inside the last 20 minutes to seal their route to the last-four, with Ben Davies and Harry Kane providing the goals.

Spurs’ win in Staffordshire saw them join Brentford and Manchester City in the semi-final draw, before later being joined by Manchester United, who got the better of Everton at Goodison Park thanks to late goals from Edinson Cavani Anthony Martial.

The two Manchester clubs joined the two London clubs in the hat, with former Spurs man Darren Bent making the draw.

As many predicted, United and City were drawn against each other, meaning Spurs were left to face Brentford, with Bent pulling his old club out first, meaning they have the home advantage in the one-legged semi-final next month.

Whilst Brentford are no pushovers, as they proved by knocking Newcastle United out of the competition on Tuesday night, this presents a golden opportunity for Spurs to reach their first cup final of the Jose Mourinho era.

And as expected, Spurs’ supporters are delighted with the outcome of the draw, meaning they are now dreaming of a trip to Wembley for the final at the end of April, should supporters be allowed back into matches by that stage.
