U-17 Afcon Qualifier: Eaglets stop Niger, face Ghana in final

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets on Wednesday night defeated Niger 2-1 in the semi final of of the zonal 2019
U-17 Afcon qualifiers to set up a mouth watering clash against Ghana in the final on Saturday.

It was sweet victory for the Coach Manu Garba led-side who finally got their pound of flesh against the host side who denied the former World Cup champions the qualification ticket for the 2017 edition in Rwanda.

Goals from Akinwunmi Ammo and Olakunle Olusegun secured victory for the Eaglets at the Seyni Kountche Stadium in Niamey. Olusegun is currently the leading scorer of the tournament with four goals.

Amoo tapped in Nigeria’s opening goal from close range following an assist from teammate Muhammad Ibrahim in the 43rd minute while Olusegun added the second 15 minutes later.

The host side got their consolation goal on the dot of 90th minute and fought for the equaliser with four minutes of added time.

Both sides played entertaining football to the delight of the crowd. Niger would now face Cote D’Ivoire in the third place match who lost to Ghana 2-1 in the first semi final played on Wednesday.
