WCQ: CAF official for Nigeria vs Ghana match dies in Abuja stadium riot

A CAF doping official, Joseph Kabungo, assigned to the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs reverse fixture between Nigeria and Ghana has given up the ghost during the riot after the game at MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

As at press time an official confirmation is being awaited.

The Zambian, who was Chipolopolo team doctor when they won the 2012 AFCON, reportedly a victim of the stampede caused by the riot.

Interestingly, Kabungo has been on the CAF medical team since 2013 and was recently re-appointed for the period of 2021-2023.

Ghana held Nigeria to a score draw to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on the away goal rule.
