CAF Champions League: Lobi Stars Crash Out Despite Asec victory
Lobi Stars have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League despite securing a 2-0 home win against ASEC Mimosas of Cote D’Ivoire at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Enugu on Saturday.
Lobi ended the campaign with seven points from six games, in Group A to finish in the third position. They were however better than Asec in terms of goal difference who occupied tge fourth position on the same number of points.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca made it to the quarter-finals from the group.
Lobi’s Sikiru Alimi scored a brace in the highly competitive match.
He scored in the third minute and before the hour mark to finish with five goals.
In the group’s other game, Micheal Babatunde was on for 86 minutes for Wydad Casablanca who defeated Mamelodi Sundowns by a lone goal.
Babatunde, a member of Nigeria’s squad to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, was replaced by Liberian William Jebor in the match.
