F/Eagles out of Africa Games as Siasia denies applying for Eagles job

The dream of Ladan Bosso tutored Flying Eagles to reach medals podium of the ongoing Africa Games in Ghana hit the rocks with a bang on Friday after the team lost 3-2 to Senegal.

The team only managed to win one out of three group matches played. They had started the campaign with a 2-1 loss to Uganda in the opener. This was followed by what looked like a bounce back following a lone goal win over South Sudan, but that turned out to be a flash in the pan with the last group stage loss to Senegal.

This implies that the team unfortunately, couldn’t get at least a point to join Uganda in the last four.

Meanwhile former U-23 coach Samson Siasia has denied applying for the vacant Super Eagles post following the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.

Siasia advised NFF to stop wasting funds on foreign coaches and regretted that his FIFA ban is still running and will elapse by August 2024. Siasia featured prominently among the coaches said to be gunning for Super Eagles following the decision of NFF to throw open the job. But the former Super Eagles striker who played for about nine clubs during this playing career including

Nantes and Al Hilal said who couldn’t have applied for the job when FIFA ban was still hanging on him.

“I did not apply for Super Eagles coaching job because I know FIFA has yet to lift the suspension on me. I don’t know where those who reported that I applied got their story from. It’s common sense, I cannot be suspended and be applying for a job. I know I would not even be considered for it,” Siasia, a silver medal winning coach with Nigeria’s Olympic team at Beijing Olympics told Completesports.com.

Giving opportunity for local coaches to pilot the affairs of the Eagles according to him is a good idea even as he underscored the need to ensure that the coach chosen has the balls to manage the egos of foreign based players.

“The NFF should look critically at all the coaches that applied for the job and pick the one with the best results and who could manage the egos of our foreign-based players” he submitted.
