India 2022: Optimistic Flamingoes jet of via Turkey

 

The country’s female U-17 side, the Flamingoes have jetted out of the country ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s world cup which kicks off October 11 in India.

The radiant team and their officials were pictured at the airport just before they jetted out. Coach of the side Bankole Olowookere had earlier expressed optimism that her girls will rise to the occasion in India. He based his optimism on the level of training they have undertaken and the level of concentration in camp. Although the team face tough opponents according to some analyst having been pitched against Germany, Chile and New Zealand, Olowookere insists the team is battle ready.

“We have been working very hard and playing a series of warm-up games and the response to training and game plan by the girls is what is giving me the optimism that we are going to India to do well. I know our group is a very difficult one with Germany, New Zealand, and Chile, but we will try and qualify for the knockout stage and forge ahead” he enthused

The Flamingoes will open shop against Germany on October 11, continue the dance against New Zealand on October 14 finishing the group stage with Chile on October 17. The India showdown will be Nigeria’s sixth appearance at the championship. The maiden appearance was in where she crashed out in the first round, three other subsequent appearances in 2010, 2012 and 2014 ended in the Quarterfinals. The 2016 edition saw the team nose dive to another first round exit while the country failed to qualify in 2018.
