U-20 AFCON: Flying Eagles draw Niger, Burundi, South Africa in Group A

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been drawn in Group A along with hosts Niger, South Africa and Burundi ahead of the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations which kicks off from February 2 to 7.

The draw was conducted at the Technical Centre of the Niger Football Federation with eight countries expected to battle for the four tickets for the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland

Two cities Niamey and Maradi will host the teams. Nigeria who this week dispatched Ghana to reach the semi final of the WAFU U-20 currently going on in Lome, Togo remain the most successful team of the competition.

They have won it seven times while they are making a return to the competition having failed to qualify for the 2017 edition.

Next year’s edition would determine the four countries that would represent the continent at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

In the case of Niger, it is their first appearance, while Burundi are making their return after their last appearance in 1995.

South Africa qualified after defeating Zimbabwe 4-3 in the COSAFA U-20 competition this week.

In Group B, Senegal will slug it out with Mali, Burkina Faso and Mali.
