Yakubu to visit cyclone victims in Malawi

Ex-Super Eagles and former Everton striker, Yakubu Ayegbeni will visit Malawi today en route from Mozambique to meet people in the regions hit by Cylone Idai report Nyasa Times.

The ex-Blues frontman will be joined by three FIFA Foundation officials with the aim of assessing the areas so that they can help renovate affected football/sport infrastructure and to appreciate the damage effects and trauma impact done. Gomezgani Zakazaka of the Malawi FA said:

“He will play football with the kids, conduct football clinics before returning on Saturday heading for Zimbabwe, the other country affected by Cyclone Idai.

“The foundation also visited Mozambique with Nuno Gomes.

Cyclone Idai made landfall in Mozambique March 14 and 15, 2019 as a Category 2 storm. Cyclone Kenneth came ashore in northern Mozambique April 25, 2019, with hurricane-force winds and heavy rains. The storm arrived only six weeks after Cyclone Idai devastated a broad area of the country about 600 miles south of Cyclone.

Kenneth’s impact zone. The extent of damage has not been determined, but flooding is expected in coastal areas of northern Mozambique and southern Tanzania.
